Location Overview
The Discovery Islands provide a great range of adventure and recreation opportunities. Sea kayaking, hiking, diving, sport fishing, mountain biking and canoeing are all popular activities catered to by local tour guides and resorts.
As the commercial hub of the Discovery Islands, Quadra Island provides a full range of services and amenities for visitors and residents alike. Easily accessed via a 10-minute ferry ride from Campbell River, Quathiaski Cove is the picturesque main community of Quadra Island and is a popular initial stop for many boaters on their north and south passages. Hiking trails criss-cross Quadra Island while old logging roads form a network of trails that are ideal for mountain biking. Heriot Bay on the east side of Quadra Island is the port of departure for the regular ferry to Cortes Island.
Considered to be one of the Pacific Northwest's top marine destinations, the Discovery Islands host a variety of popular recreational areas including the Octopus Island Group Marine Park on the east side of the Quadra Island, as well as Stuart Island and Big Bay situated to the east through the exciting "hole in the wall", a tidal surge narrows. Some of the world's best Salmon fishing and seafood gathering is found in this region. Killer whales (Orcas), porpoises, sea lions, eagles, deer, and black bear and grizzly bear are also found in abundance.
